In "Darker Than Blue", the stunning follow up to her widely acclaimed debut release "The Great Escape", Barbara Jean takes us through a month of midnights, heartache and redemption, to a honky-tonk in the woods with a voice as clear as Lake Superior. Due out in November 18, 2014, the album features nine original compositions and a stellar arrangement of an eerie traditional American folk ballad “Blackest Crow”. Playing banjo, viola, and fiddle Barbara Jean is backed by a talented band of musicians: Erik Koskinen on electric guitar (Dead Man Winter, Randy Weeks, Erik Koskinen Band) David Huckfelt on acoustic guitar (The Pines), Jeremy Hanson on drums (Haley Bonar, Tapes n Tapes, BBGUN), & James Buckley on bass (The Pines) with special guest appearances by Mason Jennings, Chastity Brown, Alex Ramsey on keys (The Pines), Mike Lewis (Bon Iver), Joe Savage on pedal steel (MPR’s Wits, Prairie Home Companion) and Frankie Lee. Produced by Erik Koskinen at RealPhonic Studio in Minneapolis with additional recording and mastering by Fred Baker at Electric Peak Studio in Gardiner, Montana, Darker Than Blue is at once rocking and thoroughly haunting.
